We come to know through sound, color, touch, movement, and smell. Attention becomes tangible through small acts of making. From a brain point of view, sensing and making work in tandem—they are how cognition is built. The brain weaves input from our sensory systems with memory and emotion, using attention to select what matters now. When we draw a line, name a sound, or slow our breath, we activate the same networks that support perception, attention, and regulation. In this lab, we bring images and words together to craft stories rich in sensory detail, grounded in real-life experience.
Thinking like an artist. Let’s find art and beauty in ordinary places. We begin by observing lines, shapes, colors, textures, and patterns hidden in our surroundings. These visual elements become our raw material for play and interpretation. By noticing what we might otherwise overlook, we sharpen perception and awaken a sense of wonder. Using simple monoprinting and collage techniques, we transform everyday fragments into mixed-media artworks, each one a record of our creativity capacity for attention and imagination.
Reflecting through creativity. Based on over a decade of practice and aligned with the Memories Are Stories journal, this workshop offers guided prompts to recall, reflect, and re-vision your experiences. Through writing, drawing, and sensory observation, we trace how memories shape perception and identity. Each session invites you to make connections between past and present, transforming recollection into insight and meaningful stories
